In late January, 1999, eight Scamp Owners happen to meet at Highlands Hammock State Park in southern Florida near Sebring. After spending several days chatting about experiences in traveling with our Scamps , this small group decided to try publishing a newsletter for Scamp owners (and others who own little "eggs"). That following May the first issue of the SOI News was mailed out to about thirty Scamp owners. Thus, Scamp Owners International (SOI) was born! From this small beginning, SOI now has several hundred members.
The major effort of SOI is the publication of the SOI News that features articles on interesting travel destinations, members letters and activities, modifications and changes members have made to their Scamp , tips and hints, news from National Parks, announcements of future gatherings (ScampCamps) and Scamps For Sale or Wanted. The newsletter is published quarterly - January, April, July and October. Another recent benefit offered SOI Members is an annual SOI Membership Directory.
With time, other features and activities have been introduced. There have been annual gatherings of SOI Members at Highlands Hammock State Park each year since that initial gathering. In addition, other ScampCamps are now being offered by SOI Members in various parts of the U.S. There have been gatherings in Death Valley National Park, northern Michigan, Shenandoah National Park, VA and many other places all across the USA. Future ScampCamps are being planned with details to be announced in the SOI News, our newsletter.
Anyone who owns or is interested in Scamp or similar small fiberglass travel trailers (Scamp, Acorn, Casita, Burro, U-Haul, Trillium, Boler, etc.) are invited to join Scamp Owners International.
