VIN Identification

The serial or VIN number is located on the tongue of the trailer on the door side. It is stamped into the top of the 3″ x 1 ½” tubing. There were a few trailers made in the 70’s where the serial number was stamped on the top of the tongue opposite the door. In mid 2023 we have gone to a VIN plaque located on the inside of the frame rail between the propane tank and battery on the driver side of the trailer.

Trailers built between 1971-1982 used a non-standard number. The serial number started with E and was followed by three to five numbers. The number following the E was the year of manufacture.

  • 1971 E1
  • 1972 E2
  • 1973 E3
  • 1974 E4
  • 1975 E5

  • 1977 E7
  • 1978 E8
  • 1979 E9
  • 1980 E10 (A)
  • 1981 E11 (B)

Starting in 1982 Scamp went to the 17 digit VIN number. The number begins with “1S7” and the 11th digit is the date code.

  • 1982 C
  • 1983 D
  • 1984 E
  • 1985 F
  • 1986 G
  • 1987 H
  • 1988 I (Scamp did use “I” which is a not valid number)
  • 1989 J & K (Switch to K in mid year)

In 1990 the date code was moved to the 10th digit.
